Welcome to Hahn-Schickard: The research centre for innovative microsystems technology. With a team of over 300 employees, we transform ideas into cross-industry solutions - from conception to production at four locations in Baden-Württemberg.

At the Freiburg site, the focus is on analytical solutions, especially for point-of-care diagnostics. But we also research, develop and manufacture electrochemical energy systems and autonomous fluidic robots.

For the Laboratory Automation division at the Freiburg im Breisgau site, we are looking for a

Research Assistant / Master Thesis Laboratory Automation (m/f/d)

Your Tasks

You will work in an interdisciplinary team to develop complete solutions for automated liquid handling.

  • Hardware and software development and integration of a tool changer for a cross-disciplinary laboratory automation platform
  • Integration of individual modules such as dispensers, grippers, linear axes, and sensors
  • Development of control software for electronic devices and components
  • Specification, design and programming of embedded software
  • Development of PCBs and design of electronic circuits
  • CAD design and prototype building

Your Profile

  • University degree in engineering in the field of embedded systems, computer science, electrical engineering, mechatronics, microelectronics, microsystems technology or a comparable field with above-average grades.
  • Knowledge of programming embedded systems/microcontrollers, languages C/C++, Python
  • Knowledge in CAD, preferable SolidWorks
  • Ideally, previous knowledge of common field bus systems, microfluidics
  • Good communication skills in English and/or German
